The Akan civilization, with its roots in the medieval Ghana Empire, developed one of the world's most sophisticated textile traditions. Kente cloth is not merely fabric — each pattern (mmaban) encodes proverbs, historical events, and philosophical concepts. The endangered Adinkra symbol system represents a visual language of over 400 ideographs.
