The Kurdish people inhabit a mountainous region spanning Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran. Their oral epic tradition, particularly the Mem û Zîn story cycle, is among the most sophisticated in the Middle East. Kurdish music, with its distinctive tanbur and daf, was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2024.
